The First out-of-state Adventure

Our first family beach trip was a success! We left on a Friday evening... put Keller in his PJs, gave him a bottle, and hit the road! The 5 or so hour ride to Hilton Head was smooth sailing. Keller slept the whole way. We will definitely keep this in mind for future trips, leaving at bedtime is the way to go.

We stayed at the Westin resort Friday night, as our Sea Pines condo would not be ready until Saturday. I've been going to Hilton Head for almost 30 years and this was the first time I didn't stay in our condo. The Westin was beautiful of course, but a condo is definitely better suited for kids. We met Pa and Kat in Sea Pines and spent the rest of the vacation with them. Keller loved getting to spend some time with them.

Saturday we took Keller to the beach for the first time. He loves to stand (with some help!) these days, so we put his little feet in the sand and he just stared down at his toes and grinned. He will be a beach bum, no doubt! Keller was a little timid for his first dip in the pool, but by the second day, he was loving it. So crazy to introduce my little man to the water in the same pool I learned to swim in 20 some years ago.

Mothers day I woke up to a smiling baby and husband, a french toast breakfast, and a sweet card and necklace. I couldn't have been happier. One year ago on that very day I found out I was pregnant with my love bug. We spent the day at the pool, then Pa and Kat babysat Sunday night while Keller was sleeping so  Sean and I could go out for dinner. It was an amazing dinner, and an amazing day overall. I am so lucky to have such a great family, and so happy to be a mommy!

On Monday, we decided to have a beach day. So we packed up all that we needed (which is a ridiculous amount of stuff I have to say), and set up shop at the beach. Keller had is own little shade tent to nap in, which was great not having to go back and forth for naps. While he napped in the shade, daddy made phone calls, and I read a book. I remember sitting there just feeling like "ah, this is the life". Of course 45 minutes later, Keller was up again and it was time to play!

Overall it was a relaxing and exciting trip. We did the usual beach/pool/beach, stayed up with Pa and Kat to play cards and have cocktails, went to Harbor Town, and all of the other things that we love to do each year we come to Hilton Head. Both Sean and I were a little nervous about the drive home, as we would be leaving in the morning instead of at night. But to our surprise, Keller is quite the traveler. He just hung out and played, and we only had to stop once for a diaper change and once for a bottle. We should have known he'd love the road, look at who is mom and dad are!
